Camp Sutton Nursery is rooted in history — and we mean that literally. The ground we stand on along East Roosevelt Boulevard in Monroe, NC was once one of the largest military training facilities in the nation. Camp Sutton opened in the spring of 1942 as a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers training base, covering nearly 2,300 acres just east of Monroe. Over the course of World War II, more than 16,000 soldiers trained here before shipping off to serve overseas. The camp was named in honor of Frank H. Sutton — a Monroe native and Royal Canadian Air Force pilot who became the city's first casualty of the war, killed on December 7, 1941, the same day as the attack on Pearl Harbor. For Dennis Moser, President of The Moser Group, this land is also personal. Dennis grew up in the Camp Sutton neighborhood, spending his childhood on Cuthbertson Street and creating memories that stayed with him long after he left. When the opportunity came to redevelop this historic ground, it wasn't just a business decision — it was a homecoming. Honoring the Camp Sutton name was never a question. Today, Camp Sutton Nursery is a public retail garden center carrying a wide selection of houseplants, trees, shrubs, flowers, ornamentals, and planting materials — for gardeners of every level. We also host seasonal events throughout the year connecting the community with local vendors, food trucks, and live music. This place has always meant something to Monroe. We're proud to keep that tradition growing. Hours: Monday – Friday: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM Saturday: 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM 1801 E. Roosevelt Blvd, Monroe, NC 28112
